The residential site located at Lorong 6 and Lorong 4 Toa Payoh, was released by the Housing & Development Board (HDB), acting as the Government’s land sales agent, in April 2015.

A consortium comprising Evia Real Estate, Maxdin Pte Ltd and Gamuda Berhad, won the fiercely contested tender with the top bid of S$345.86 million or S$755.30 per square foot per plot ratio (psf ppr)

The 99-year leasehold Gem Resort Residences sits on a generous site area of 12,154.8sqm / 130,832sqft. The new iconic Gem Resort Residences will have 2 residential tower blocks. Each block at Gem Resort Residences will stand at 38 and 37 storeys high, towering the nearby apartments and flats.

    NORMANTON Park condominium, located near Kent Ridge Park, will be put up for collective sale next Thursday after the requisite 80 per cent majority consent was secured from the owners.

    But consultants were quick to rain on the parade, saying that the site may be too big for the current appetite of developers, whose risk of holding large sites is exacerbated by the additional buyers' stamp duty that applies to unsold units five years after the land purchase date.

    Toa Payoh Names

    Toa Payoh (大巴窑), in the Hokkien dialect, translates as "big swamp" (with "Toa" meaning "big" and "Payoh" meaning "swamp"). The Malay word for swamp is paya. It is the Chinese equivalent of Paya Lebar, which translates to, big swamp land.

    Toa Payoh's old Chinese name, was known as Ang Chiang San (alternatively An Xiang Shan) or "Burial Hill". The area was called as such because of the presence of an old cemetery located in the area.

    John Turnbull Thomson, a government surveyor, refers to Toa Payoh in his 1849 agricultural report as Toah Pyoh Lye and Toah Pyoh.
